About Me
Being a psychologist is only one part of who I am. I’m a mom of two girls who loves books, gardening, music, herbalism, and spending time in nature. You’ll often find me at a thrift store, making herbal teas from my garden, or dancing and listening to live music with friends. Born and raised in Austin, I still call Lady Bird Lake “Town Lake” and embrace all things Austin.
As a second-generation Tejana, I grew up balancing academic ambition with a deep spiritual connection to my culture and roots. I learned early to code-switch and adapt—often the only Latina in advanced classes—and went on to study at an Ivy League university and earn my doctorate from a leading Clinical Psychology program.
Over time, I realized that relentless striving wasn’t the life I wanted. Alongside my goals, I began reconnecting with my roots, ancestors, creativity, and the parts of myself I had set aside in pursuit of achievement. I have been studying and practicing Mesoamerican-based curanderismo for the past seven years, and I have valued spirituality and connection to nature since my childhood. Today, I continue to value science and evidence-based practice while also honoring the intuition, culture, spirituality, and lived experience that can be essential to meaningful healing.
I provide psychological services through my private practice and offer spiritual services separately through a non-psychological practice. If you are primarily interested in spiritual offerings, you can find me here.
What’s up with my logo? My name De La Garza means “of the heron” in Spanish—hence the beautiful blue bird flying through the sky.
